It's still too early to tell, but there seems to be new contenders in the NBA for the 2007-2008 season.
There were some major headlines in the NBA in the month of November. Gilbert Arenas is set to miss about 3-4 months; Elton Brand, who some thought might miss the entire season, could be back as soon as January; the Boston Celtics have stormed into an early league in the East with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen playing well together; Dwight Howard has led the Orlando Magic to a surprising fast start; and more. Some teams that are playing well at the moment are bound to cool off at some point. At the same time, it's hard to imagine the Chicago Bulls playing any worse than they've been playing. Trade rumors have also been surfacing, including rumors that have Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol or Jermaine O'Neal headed to the Chicago Bulls.
Here's a look at which teams lead the pack in the race toward the 2007 NBA Title.
November 2007 NBA Power Rankings
- Boston Celtics (11-1) – Boston has started the 2007-2008 NBA season red hot and has held teams to a league low 89.7 ppg. The Celtics are beating teams by an average of 13 ppg.
- San Antonio Spurs (12-2) -- The Spurs are doing what they do best, playing organized basketball and executing as good as any.
- Phoenix Suns (11-2) -- The Suns have quietly put together a solid start in the West, even though Amare Stoudemire has just started to heat up.
- Orlando Magic (12-3) -- Orlando has shocked the world with such a fast start. Dwight Howard is playing out of his mind and Rashard Lewis has proven to be a nice addition.
- Utah Jazz (10-4) - Ronnie Brewer is providing the consistently they've needed at the two guard spot and the one-two punch of Carlos Boozer and Deron Williams has Jazz fans excited for the future.
- Dallas Mavericks (9-4) – Dirk Nowitzki is conserving his energy for the playoffs; a lesson he's learned from the San Antonio Spurs' utilization of Tim Duncan. He's deferring more to Josh Howard and Jason Terry on offense.
- New Orleans Hornets (10-5) -- Chris Paul has that team playing on all cylinders again. Now he just needs to get back to health.
- Denver Nuggets (9-5) – Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony seem to be co-existing nicely so far.
- Milwaukee Bucks (7-4) -- The Bucks are healthy again and playing solid. Rookie Yi Jianlian has put in some nice outings, while Michael Redd continues to lead the team in scoring.
- Cleveland Cavaliers (8-6) -- The Cavs probably won't repeat as Eastern Conference Champions this season, but for now, LeBron James is playing out of his mind.
