A preliminary look at the 2009 NBA Draft.
The rumors have swirled about the league as to what NBA teams might do in the upcoming NBA Draft. Ultimately, all questions will be answered in a week. Here's a final look before the draft of what might happen. 1. LA Clippers selects PF Blake Griffin, Oklahoma -- This is as much of a done deal as can be. The Clippers will try to move one or more of their other bigs, but Griffin will be a Clipper. 2. Memphis Grizzlies selects C Hasheem Thabeet, Connecticut -- If Rubio's picked here, expect a trade to be announced. However, after the Timberwolves rejected a deal that would have sent Kevin Love and the #5 pick to Memphis, it looks like the Grizzlies could keep this pick and draft Thabeet. 3. Oklahoma City Thunder selects SG James Harden, Arizona State -- Rubio could be the pick here, but Russell Westbrook and Rubio might have a hard time co-existing. Harden's an ideal fit here. He gives them a big shooting guard who can score and play solid defense. 4. Sacramento Kings selects PG Tyreke Evans, Memphis -- Word is that the Kings have been turned off by Rubio. His contract issues are too much of a concern. They'll hope Evans will be able to make the conversion to point guard quickly, with Kevin Martin locked into the shooting guard spot. 5. Minnesota Timberwolves selects PG Ricky Rubio -- On the one hand, Rubio slipping this far could be wishful thinking. On the other hand, maybe not. Rubio's contract issues has been much call for concern to many teams. If he falls this far, the Wolves would love to take a chance on him. 6. Minnesota Timberwolves selects SG Stephen Curry, Davidson -- Minnesota may opt for a larger guard in DeMar DeRozan, but with so much want for Curry, it would make sense for them to nab him while they can. 7. Golden State Warriors selects PG Jonny Flynn, Syracurse -- Jordan Hill's an option here, but they already have a couple skinny bigs in Brandan Wright and Anthony Randolph. Flynn's athleticism would make him a good fit alongside Monta Ellis. 8. New York Knicks selects PF Jordan Hill, Arizona -- The Knicks may end up trading this pick if Flynn or Curry don't fall to them, but with them shopping David Lee around, they could be in the market for an athletic power forward. 9. Toronto Raptors selects SG DeMar DeRozan, USC -- DeRozan has the raw talent to be one of the best players in this draft in a few years. DeRozan is athletic and could be the second coming of Vince Carter, minus the attitude. 10. Milwaukee Bucks selects SF James Johnson, Wake Forest -- Trading Richard Jefferson allows them to resign Ramon Sessions if they want to, but that still leaves the issue of not enough toughness. Joe Alexander has not panned out. Johnson has great size at the three spot. 11. New Jersey Nets selects SG Gerald Henderson, Duke -- After agreeing to a deal that would send Vince Carter to the Orlando Magic for three players, the Nets are in the market for a shooting guard. Henderson seems like a likely fit. 12. Charlotte Bobcats selects SG Terrence Williams, Louisville -- Williams' versatility makes him a good fit in Charlotte, who badly needs a two guard. 13. Indiana Pacers selects PF Tyler Hansbrough, North Carolina -- The Pacers could go with a point guard, but desperately need a big man. Hansbrough's a proven winner with toughness and energy. 14. Phoenix Suns selects C B.J. Mullens, Ohio State -- He's a project, but some think he may be the next Chris Kaman. OKC is rumored to be trying to move up to this spot to take him. Of course, that may not happen if they draft Thabeet third overall. 15. Detroit Pistons selects SF Earl Clark, Louisville -- The Pistons apparently want Mullens, but would be fine "settling" for Clark. 16. Chicago Bulls selects PF DeJuan Blair, Pittsburgh17. Philadelphia 76ers selects PG Eric Maynor, VCI18. Minnesota Timberwolves selects G Chase Budinger, Arizona19. Atlanta Hawks selects PG Ty Lawson, North Carolina20. Utah Jazz selects SF Sam Young, Pittsburgh21. New Orleans Hornets selects PG Brandon Jennings, International22. Portland Trail Blazers selects PG Jrue Holiday, UCLA23. Sacramento Kings selects SF Omri Casspi, International24. Dallas Mavericks selects PG Jeff Teague, Wake Forest25. Oklahoma City Thunder selects SG Wayne Ellington, North Carolina26. Chicago Bulls selects SF DaJuan Summers, Georgetown27. Memphis Grizzlies selects PF Taj Gibson, USC28. Minnesota Timberwolves selects SF Jonas Jerebko, International29. LA Lakers selects PG Toney Douglas, Florida State30. Cleveland Cavaliers selects SF Austin Daye, Gonzaga
