A Valentine's Day AffairToronto Raptors versus New Jersey Nets, Vince Carter's return, MVP
The Raptors took on the Nets on Valentine's Day. Vince Carter came back to Toronto with a second rate New Jersey team and made the game interesting, not due to game play.
A Valentine's Day Affair Having Vince Carter back in T.O. with the Raptors wearing red, their last game before the all-star break is fitting. The game started out slow with the highlight being the course of boo's raining down every time VC touched the rock. The crowd actually started to chant "MVP" for all-star forward Chris Bosh. As that was happening a sign of disrespect came from the lips of Carter. What was said was to Bosh "Mvp", then a surprised look and raised eye brow came across his face while he continued to talk to Bosh. This was highlighted by raptors announcer Leo Rautins. Although I don't totally agree with Bosh as MVP yet, that is extremely disrespectful to Bosh. With Vince Carter going out early with foul trouble the Toronto Raptors took the lead and looked to dominate early and often against this second rate team missing Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Nenad Krstic to injuries. However New Jersey was making some deep shots with quick shooter Eddie House and Bostjan Nachbar helping out the Nets in the first half. The Raptors gave the ball to Chris Bosh but he quickly found out that he couldn't out muscle the Nets in the paint, which he continued trying to do rather than relying on his quick’s, he struggled through the first half. This type of game shows that Toronto is still not ready to move to the upper echelon of teams in the east. Their biggest weakness continues to be on the defensive end. As they are notable to stop guys like House and Nachbar dominating on the offensive end with everything they throw up falling. But without the play maker, Jason Kidd the Nets is giving the game away with all their turnovers. The second half story is the fact that Carter finally got a couple shots to go down but it was not enough even with bench players stepping up to get New Jersey to score over a hundred points. Carter finished with 17 points along with Marcus Williams; Bosh had 25 pts and Bargnani with 15 pts. The Raptors take the game 120-109 on Valentine's Day. Toronto is now off until after the all-star break.
