A ranking of the top ten NBA basketball dunkers.
Last night against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat Guard Dwayne Wade stunned the crowd with an authoritative dunk over Anderson Varejao. LeBron James said it was probably one of the best dunks of all time. Posterizing opponents with mind-blowing jams is nothing new for Dwayne Wade. It's nothing new for LeBron James, for that matter. This poses the question, who are the best dunkers in the NBA? Suite101 answers that question. 10. Jason Richardson, Phoenix Suns - The two-time slam dunk champion shoots threes well, but is also known for his high-flying stuffs. Watch J-Rich dunk on Rasho Nesterovic. 9. Gerald Wallace, Charlotte Bobcats - Few get up like Wallace. Watch him abuse big man Greg Oden. - Smith jumps out of the gym. See him throw down against Kendrick Perkins. 8. Josh Smith, Atlanta Hawks 7. Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia 76ers - "Iggy" is about as athletic as they come and his dunks are reminiscent of Vince Carter. Here's a great dunk mix of "Iggy." 6. Rudy Gay, Memphis Grizzlies - Gay is versatile and knows how to finish. Here's Gay's top ten dunks. 5. Kobe Bryant, LA Lakers - Kobe's a monster with serious hops. Even with age, he hasn't lost his ability to play above the rim. Watch Kobe's best ten dunks. 4. Amare Stoudemire, Phoenix Suns - Amare is feared by opposing big men, because of his ability to posterize anyone in the league. Watch him abuse the Warriors in the paint. 3. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic - The former slam dunk champion rattles rims with his thunderous jams. See his top ten dunks. 2. Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat - Wade may only be 6-4, but he's a solid 220lbs of muscle. With great reach and great hops, Wade makes a living embarrassing shot blockers around the league.Just ask the Toronto Raptors. 1. LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers - LeBron is a beast. Few players share his size, speed, hops and athleticism. At 6-8, he's a legitimate 250lbs and gets above the rim with ease. Check out LJ's top 20 career dunks. Honorable Mention: Vince Carter, Orlando Magic - He might not throw down as much as he used to, but anyone who jumps over a 7-2 big man (Frederic Weis) to stuff it deserves mention. While this list is subjective, these dunkers certainly deserve a look. Check out the videos before making an objective decision. Also, check out Demetrius "Hook" Mitchell dunk. At 5-9, he might've been one of the greatest dunkers of all time, even if he was little known.
