Chicago Bulls NBA Draft Preview

Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley to the Bulls?

The Chicago Bulls have a tough dilemma in the 2008 NBA Draft. Derrick Rose or Michael Beasley?

Rose and Beasley are really the only two choices for the Bulls. The number one pick has to be a franchise player and Beasley and Rose are the two best bets to be All-Stars for the Bulls in the NBA.

The arguments for Derrick Rose going with the first pick to the Bulls usually boil down to the fact that a great point guard is tough to find and a great point guard is a huge asset for any team. Rose has the ability to penetrate and dish or score as well and can run a team like the Chicago Bulls with ease. Some people question Rose's stats in college and say he's not worthy of the Chicago Bulls' first pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, but Rose did up his stats significantly in the NCAA Tournament. Rose has a world of talent and Bulls could use him. They do already have Kirk Hinrich, however. Hinrich could be traded by the Bulls if they do take Rose.

Michael Beasley is another possible number one pick for the Chicago Bulls. Beasley is a beast who cleans the glass with ease and scores with even more ease in a variety of ways. The Chicago Bulls might pick him first in the 2008 NBA Draft because they need some inside scoring desperately and he is a better complement to the Bulls' lineup. Beasley also might be more NBA ready than Rose which the Bulls like. But he doesn't have the ability to play great defense, or at least not the effort. The Bulls have noted this.

Overall, the Chicago Bulls have a hard choice between Beasley and Rose, but expect them to use the number one pick in the 2008 NBA Draft to take the hometown kid in Rose because of his upside.

The first pick of the 2008 NBA Draft and the debate between Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley is something that will be re-hashed for many years after the pick looking back, so the Chicago Bulls have to do as much homework as possible in order to prepare for this pick. Both Rose and Beasley have great strengths and some interesting weaknesses, but the Chicago Bulls have to make this pick based on which player has the best chance of becoming a superstar and being a player they can build around. Teams in the NBA have shown that one or two superstars and some great role players can still win a title with ease, and the Chicago Bulls are a team that have a lot of good players but no truly great ones. The Bulls have to start with this Rose and Beasley decision in hopes that they can target the next great NBA player and lock him up to build a title team around. We will find out whether or not it's Rose or Beasley for the Bulls with the first pick on Thursday, June 26.

In the second round, the Bull will use their draft pick to take the best player available. DeVon Hardin of California and Joey Dorsey of Memphis look like intriguing potential picks for the Bulls.
