The Detroit Pistons are set for a wild off-season as Joe Dumars has said that trades are imminent. Detroit Pistons trade rumors have been all over the Internet for the past week and Carmelo Anthony and Tracy McGrady are rumored to be top targets.
The first scenario has Chauncey Billups heading to Denver as part of a trade from the Detroit Pistons to the Denver Nuggets for Carmelo Anthony. There are a lot of different trade scenarios for the Pistons to get this deal done but Carmelo Anthony is the principal part the Pistons would get in a trade. Carmelo Anthony would bring great scoring to the Pistons but his defense is a big question mark. A Carmelo Anthony trade to the Pistons would be a bit ironic considering that Joe Dumars passed up Anthony in the 2003 NBA Draft for Darko Milicic.
Tracy McGrady a Piston?
Joe Dumars has inquired about making a trade for Tracy McGrady in past years but this might be the year he pulls it off. The Rockets need a shake-up and the Detroit Pistons have several possible pieces to trade including the big four of Rasheed Wallace, Tayshaun Prince, Richard Hamilton, and Chauncey Billups.
Any trade rumor involving the Detroit Pistons for McGrady seems to include at least two of the big four Pistons stars. Dumars might be willing to trade Hamilton and another player since Rodney Stuckey is going into his second season in the NBA and might be a star.
Other Piston Trade Possibilities
Other Detroit Piston trade rumor targets include Carlos Boozer of the Utah Jazz, Allen Iverson of the Denver Nuggets, and Josh Howard of the Dallas Mavericks.
Boozer would be amazing next to Rasheed Wallace so if the Pistons could get him that would make for an excellent and versatile front-line. But Boozer alone wouldn't give Detroit enough defense.
Another Detroit Pistons trade rumor is for Allen Iverson but he is aging and would be hard to move. Still, Joe Dumars almost pulled off a trade for Iverson a few years back when Iverson was with the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Josh Howard to the Detroit Pistons trade rumor would be straight up for either Richard Hamilton or Tayshaun Prince. The Prince trade makes sense because Howard would bring great dribble-drive ability to a Detroit Pistons offense that is mostly based on the jump shot right now. A Richard Hamilton trade from the Pistons for Josh Howard would be a steep price to pay but it might be a good move too because Howard would bring more balance and depth to the Pistons and allow talented youngster Stuckey to start for Detroit.
Overall, these Detroit Pistons trade rumors are all intriguing but it's unknown if any other them will go down. Pistons GM Joe Dumars should make a trade at some point though. The trade rumor of Carmelo Anthony to the Pistons is the top one going but Dumars will have a lot of other options so stay tuned.
