Dwayne Wade, Miami Heat, Ron Artest, Sacramento Kings, Ben Wallace, Detroit Pistons, and Los Angeles Lakers updates. The latest NBA news for February 26, 2007
Dwayne Wade will seek a second opinion, Ron Artest doesn’t play against his former team, Ben Wallace booed during return to Detroit, Vladmir Radmanovic comes clean about injury, and Dennis Johnson passes at 52.
Star forward Dwayne Wade is going to seek a second opinion on his injured shoulder to see if he should have season ending surgery. However, if Wade decides to have surgery soon, he could possibly return for the last ten games of the season. The Heat, who are currently enjoying the return of head coach Pat Riley, will miss Wade as he has been one of the NBA’s top scorers all season.
Ron Artest didn’t show up to play against his former team. Despite his absence, the Sacramento Kings came out on top against the Indiana Pacers 110-93. Pacer fans haven’t had very nice things to say about Artest ever since a brawl broke out between Artest and Detroit Pistons fans two seasons ago and his public request for a trade last season. Artest said he missed the games for “personal reasons.”
Former Detroit Piston fan favorite Ben Wallace, was booed over and over in his return to The Palace on Sunday, February 25th. The four time Defensive Player of the Year told the associated press earlier this week that he wanted a reaction, not necessarily caring which one. Piston fans displayed their bitterness with Wallace for signing with the Bulls as a free agent because they offered $10 million more, by booing Wallace nearly every time he touched the ball. Wallace didn’t seem discouraged though as he began encouraging the crowd throughout the game.
Los Angeles Lakers forward Vladmir Radmanovic admitted he lied about his shoulder injury during last weeks All-Star Break. Radmanovic told Coach Phil Jackson and General Manager Mitch Kupchak that he injured his shoulder after slipping on a patch of ice. Now Radmanovic has told everyone that he injured the shoulder while snowboarding. The injury is expecting to sideline Radmanovic for about two months. The Lakers have not decided if Radmanovic will have disciplinary action taken against him.
Former NBA star and fan favorite Dennis Johnson died Thursday, February 22nd, after his developmental team’s practice. He was talking to a team staff member when he collapsed. When paramedics arrived at the scene, Johnson was unconscious and in Cardiac Arrest. He was pronounced dead after a 23 minute attempt to revive him. Johnson was a five-time All-Star, and NBA Finals MVP in 1979 with the Seattle Supersonics.
