NBA gossip can be misleading. Most of the trades that actually do occur before the NBA trade deadline are the ones no one hears about.
This Thursday’s 3 NBA trade deadline has headlines reporting all sorts of outlandish rumors. The challenge is to separate fact from fiction. Here are the latest NBA rumors floating around just before the trade deadline:
- The New Jersey Nets are still interested in trading Jason Kidd. The LA Lakers seem to be the front-runners, but their reluctance to part with Andrew Bynum or Lamar Odom makes things difficult. They are apparently trying to get at least one other team involved.
- The Orlando Magic may be making a push for the New Jersey Nets' Vince Carter. Grant Hill and his expiring contract would have to be part of the deal, as well as some younger players, like Darko Milicic, J.J. Redick and perhaps Hedo Turkoglu.
- Despite many previous rumors, the LA Clippers are not expected to trade Corey Maggette.
- There is a rumor floating around that the Seattle SuperSonics may trade Rashard Lewis to the New York Knicks for Channing Frye, Nate Robinson and another player. However, the New York Post report that there has been no talks about this between the two teams.
- There's a rumor that the Atlanta Hawks have offered Speedy Claxton and their number one pick to the Seattle SuperSonics for Luke Ridnour. However, these rumors are bogus, especially since the Phoenix Suns already possess the Hawks' number one pick via the Joe Johnson trade.
- The Cleveland Cavaliers want a point guard and have shown interest in Sacramento's Mike Bibby. However, it appears they don't have the pieces to make that deal work. They're also interested in Memphis' Damon Stoudamire, Charlotte's Brevin Knight and Phoenix's Marcus Banks.
- There's been a rumor that the Detroit Pistons might send Dale Davis and Flip Murray to the Houston Rockets for Bonzi Wells and Bob Sura.
- It appears that Pau Gasol won't be leaving Memphis anytime soon. The rumor that he was headed to Chicago has lost momentum, as the Bulls don't seem to be willing to part with both Ben Gordon and Luol Deng.
- The Memphis Grizzlies are open to trading Dahntay Jones, Brian Cardinal and Stromile Swift.
Remember, most of the deals that end up happening at the trade deadline are the ones you don't hear rumors about. So, keep your eyes on the headlines for this Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline.
