Miles, Hodge, Croshere Among NBA WaiversOptions Picked Up on Durant, Morrison, Trio of Bulls, Hawes
Here is a breakdown of transactions made by NBA clubs between October 15-24, as the teams trim their rosters to the allowed 15 players.
Boston* Waives Darius Miles (Oct. 21) Boston decided to rid itself of Miles who proclaimed himself fit to play despite being ruled unfit by doctors in Portland. The Celtics took only a minor chance so they are not getting burned at all. Charlotte* Exercises options on Jared Dudley and Adam Morrison (Oct. 15) * Waives Justin Williams (Oct. 24) The big news here is Bobcats management throwing its support behind the small forward Morrison, who has neared NBA Draft bust status after struggling when he has played and missed time with a torn ACL. Chicago* Waives Elton Brown and Darius Washington (Oct. 20) * Waives Roger Powell and Michael Ruffin (Oct. 23) * Exercises Options on Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha and Joakim Noah for 2009-10 season (Oct. 24) The waiver moves are not a surprise at all and neither are the options for this fine young trio of players. Thomas still appears talented enough to become a star while Sefolosha confirmed the Bulls’ faith in drafting him. Noah meanwhile has not had a lot of playing time to prove himself. Cleveland* Waives Vernon Hamilton (Oct. 20) * Waives Ronald Dupree (Oct. 23) Dallas Mavericks* Waive Charles Rhodes (Oct. 20) * Waives Cheyne Gadson, JaJuan Smith and Reyshawn Terry (Oct. 23) * Waives Keith McLeod (Oct. 23) Denver* Waives Mateen Cleaves, Nick Fazekas, James Mays, Smush Parker and Ruben Patterson (Oct. 23) The Nuggets cleaned house and there are three surprises here with Fazekas (a Dallas second round pick in 2007), Parker and Patterson. Expect the latter two to probably get picked up soon. Golden State* Waives Dan Dickau (Oct. 19) Houston* Waives D.J. Strawberry (Oct. 24) A second round selection by Phoenix in 2007, the son of baseball player Darryl Strawberry, D.J. was the odd man out in the Rockets guard rotation. Indiana* Waives Austin Croshere and Josh Davis (Oct. 23) Croshere may not be out of work long as the 33-year-old power forward has plenty of experience, including playing in the 2000 NBA Finals with Indiana as well as the 2004 Eastern Conference Finals. Last season he was with Golden State and missed the playoffs for the first time in his career. LA Clippers* Waives Curtis Sumpter (Oct. 19) * Exercises third year option on Al Thorton (Oct. 22) * Waives Jelani McCoy (Oct. 23) The option on Thorton was a given while Sumpter will likely return to Europe after playing in Germany and France last season. LA Lakers* Waives Brandon Heath (Oct. 20) * Waives Joe Crawford and C.J. Giles (Oct. 22) Memphis* Waives Brent Petway (Oct. 20) Milwaukee* Waives Ron Howard and Kevin Kruger (Oct. 20) * Waives Matt Freije (Oct. 24) New Jersey* Waives Eddie Gill, Brian Hamilton, Julius Hodge and Keith Van Horn (Oct. 24) The Nets part ways with two NBA veterans in Gill and Van Horn while Hodge has failed to produce enough to confirm the 20th pick in the 2005 Draft. New Orleans* Waives Jared Jordan and Courtney Sims (Oct. 22) New York* Exercises fourth year option on Mardy Collins and third year option on Wilson Chandler (Oct. 23) * Waives Dan Grunfeld (Oct. 23) Oklahoma City* Exercises third year options on Kevin Durant and Jeff Green (Oct. 16) * Waives Chris Alexander and Derrick Byars (Oct. 21) Durant is the face of the just-moved franchise and Green has produced solidly since getting drafted No. 5. Orlando* Waives Dwayne Jones (Oct. 23) Philadelphia* Waives Antywane Robinson (Oct. 20) * Waives Jared Reiner (Oct. 23) Phoenix* Waives Robert Hite (Oct. 23) * Exercises option on Alando Tucker (Oct. 23) Portland* Waives Jamaal Tatum (Oct. 17) * Waives Luke Jackson and Steven Hill (Oct. 23) Jackson was the 10th pick of the 2004 Draft but never panned out at any of four teams. Sacremento* Exercise Option on Spencer Hawes for 2009-10 season (Oct. 16) * Waives Noel Felix and Bobby Jones (Oct. 21) Hawes – the No. 10 pick of the 2007 Draft – had an unspectacular rookie season but remains a promising talent at just 20 years. San Antonio* Waives Charles Gaines (Oct. 20) * Waives Devin Green, Salim Stoudamire and Darryl Watkins (Oct. 23) Toronto* Waives Jamal Sampson (Oct. 22) Utah* Waives Kevin Lyde and Gabe Muoneke (Oct. 22) Washington* Waives DerMarr Johnson and Linton Johnson (Oct. 21)
